Megan’s Motivation

FYTE club has filled a void in me. Over the past year I was at my highest weight ever.  I would watch what I was eating and start exercising and then stop. No matter what I did my weight just kept creeping up. I was certain I had a thyroid problem so I  went to the doctor. My bloodwork was essentially normal. I was floored. Reality check: I was over 40 and I just needed to get on track. I knew I needed help this time, because doing it alone wasn’t working. Friends of mine kept posting pics from FYTE club and I was blown away by how great they looked. As if they transformed both inside and out. I knew I had to try this club.
At my first class, I have to admit, I was embarrassed. I was embarrassed by how far I had let myself go. Embarrassed that a few years back I had gotten myself into great shape and then let it all slip away. I was really disappointed in myself. When I arrived at the class I was impressed by Jess and all of the members who welcomed me with open arms. No one ever made me feel judged. I really appreciated that the women were varying ages and at different fitness levels. Jess was hysterical and she never once made  me feel stupid that I needed to start slowly and neither did the members. She and the members encouraged me to go at my own pace and Jess gave me modifications as needed.
After that class I was amazed by how good my body felt. I was wicked sore everywhere and could hardly walk, but I knew the class had targeted all the right muscles and I didn’t injure myself. So I decided to sign up and try it out for a month. But this time around I promised myself I would approach things differently than I had done in the past. I am generally all or nothing, so this time I promised myself I would ease into getting in shape. I knew it was going to take time to get the weight off, as it had taken time to pack it on.  I was afraid of injuring my back and I was afraid if I went hog wild like a few years back that I would burn out. I needed to change my attitude and approach. I needed Jessika’s help and I needed the camaraderie of FYTE club. For me the perfect formula for success.
I started working out 3 days a week. I modified everything. I only used 3 pound weights to start. I told myself not to focus on weight loss. My goal was to focus on endurance and strength. I begrudgingly took my before picture as Jess encouraged me to do. I didn’t want to do it. I was embarrassed and didn’t want to really see myself, but I took the damn picture anyway. Jess strongly recommended it so I did it. I am happy I have it now. Trust me take the picture.
Jess doesn’t only teach an amazing workout class. She build us up. She talks to us from her heart and shares her vulnerability. She is so passionate about what she does. Her positive attitude is contagious. I really don’t think she realizes how much she helps all of us. She is determined to help her members succeed. She sets the tone for the class. I NEVER feel judged by anyone. I always feel welcome.
Jess guides us on how and what to eat. She never makes you feel like a failure if you slip up. She teaches us to put that day behind us and move on. I didn’t really feel I needed help with my diet ( I was very wrong).  I thought I was always good about eating vegetables and staying away from fried high fat foods, but I never understood the importance of my protein intake. I was hardly eating any protein. I was also ignoring how often I would eat when I felt stressed and I would often skip meals. I also wasn’t drinking any water. I began adding protein (25 G at each meals) and filled my 32 oz water bottle and began having that with me to drink all day.
It took about 2 months before my body began releasing pounds slowly, but the inches were coming off and my body was significantly stronger. At month 3 I started to feel a real difference in my body. I increased to 8# dumbells and began feeling the muscles in my arms defining. I began working out 4 days a week. I also went from being obsessed with the scale to using my clothes to gage my progress.  I still weigh myself, but instead use it as a tool to show me I’m on the right track.
I am now at month 7 and I could not be happier with the results. I have lost a ton of inches and over 18 pounds . It feels so good to be stronger. Going to class helps center me. I use the class to release my stress. It helps me feel less anxious. I no longer offer myself the option of going to class.  Going to class is  something I have to do for me. Even if I am exhausted I just go. I always feel better once I get to class and I make a point to be focused and give it my all. I try to get the most out of every workout.
I am proud of myself now. I feel better each day. This class has transformed my outlook on fitness and how I eat. I don’t diet, I just choose to eat the good things first. I always eat the protein first, it prevents me from eating all the bad carbs. Before a party or dinner out I eat a (20g) protein bar and the water keeps me hydrated. Thank you Jessika!!!! You are an incredible human being! The difference you9 make is priceless. Also Thank You to all the exceptional members. You are one hell of a tribe that I am proud to be a part of!
